Coming soon

11/30/23
24mm / 30s

Went to check out the Scituate Lighthouse construction yesterday. The workers have no idea when it’ll be finished, but the new top looks great and they added some bricks to the top as well. It’ll look different, but I think it looks better. Still annoyed I didn’t get around to shooting the original in a professional setting. Oh well!

This location remains my favorite in the area and is iconic for the South Shore, and even greater Boston area. There are many different compositions here that always deliver amazing results, however I tend to look at this one as my signature shot. You can find an older photo from this location in my store, and I’ll for sure be releasing a finished version of this shot as soon as the lighthouse is done. This full shot is a panoramic, unfortunately Squarespace doesn’t allow any other aspect ratio than 16:9 for the blog. You can see the full version in the gallery.

4th Cliff Sunrise

30s / 35mm / Canon Rebel t6

To celebrate one year of printing I am posting the picture that kick started my seascape ventures. This morning was one of the first mornings I chose to wake up and go shoot the sunrise with serious intentions of making a mural photograph and the morning delivered with extreme promises. I have been going to the beach for pictures since I got my driver’s license but only recently have I picked the camera back up and developed a high quality workflow to ensure the maximum quality of any photograph in particular. This will always be a work in progress but after creating this image is when I really began to see myself with expert level capabilities. I knew I was in for it when the obsession swiftly cranked up.

I like to call this location my secret spot, nestled away in the cliffs of Scituate, MA. Looking out towards the 4th Cliff of Humarock island, the spit beach is off to the right in this photo.

This photo prints exceptionally well and I urge anyone to consider purchasing it for themselves in my store right here on my website!

Secrets of sea pines

Fujifilm x100v
23mm | f4 | 1/280s

It’s been a few weeks now since I’ve returned from my first golf trip ever. I have been thinking about this place a lot ever since, it’s safe to say that I’m in love with Hilton Head and am already thinking about when I’ll be back. We arrived later than we had planned for and ended up booking our trip a little backwards. This was the first day of 5 straight days of non stop championship level golf, and we were freshly off 27 holes on 4 hours of sleep starting with the renowned PGA tour stop of the Harbour Town Country Club. Needless to say, our games were not up to par. But by the time we made it to the 9th hole at Sea Pines Atlantic Dunes (pictured) we knew we picked the right destination.

Hilton Head is unlike any other landscape I’ve ever visited. It was swampy and felt like a giant zoo filled with golf courses and beaches. I was up every morning walking the beach with countless others, and some bird friends as well. The weather was to die for, always showing off its pinks and purples in the early mornings before some overcast crept in, and finally clearing up to yet another perfect day by noon. I could see myself spending a lot of time on this island.

Sea Smoke

80mm | f14 | 1/125s

This weekend was a chilly one. Temps reached 10 degrees below 0 on Saturday morning, which actually sets a new low for the coldest temperatures on record here! I was out picking up lunch on Friday when I told myself there was maybe a 1% chance of me actually getting up the next morning to witness what I’ve only heard stories about. After waking up and seeing a photographer friend’s IG story, I got my shit together and braved the cold. Turns out it was so incredible to see and fun to photograph that I didn’t even think about how cold it was.

This sea smoke develops over big lakes and oceans when temperatures reach 10°F and below. Due to the extremely low temp of -10, it was vast and spread all across the ocean. It was super cool.

Today turned out to be a pretty nice day to shoot. I ran into multiple photographers and had some great talks about everyone’s different style and learned about some new locations that I’m looking forward to checking out. I was done for the day and decided I still had another hour or so of high tide left so I figured I’d hit some of my regular spots. I knew my photos today were going to be monochrome since there was no color due to the harsh overcast, and the calm conditions were just perfect to whip out the ND1000 and do some long exposures.

This is the Powder Point bridge at Duxbury Beach, facing west.

**Unfortunately Squarespace doesn’t let me upload big enough files, so quality loss is visible in some pictures.

My First Blog Post

20mm / f22 / 30s

Well, here we are. I guess I’m just going to write to myself to get a feel for what it’s like to journal about my work. I only recently picked up my DSLR again after a long break to solidify my career and work on the things life throws at us, although I used to photograph surf competitions, concerts and scenery a lot when I was younger. Weird saying that. But I have been pretty obsessed lately and finding myself out shooting as often as every day, so I figured I’d give myself a space to reflect on my experiences while out in the field.

My first post is going to be a heavy hitter (in my opinion) to get the ball rolling and give some insight on my process and not lack in the quality department. This photograph was taken on December 30th, 2022 at Roht Marine at the 3A bridge on the line between Scituate and Marshfield. The mouth of the North River is a common location for me and I will continue to use it as it’s close by and there are lots of different vantage points.

I originally planned on heading to the lighthouse on this evening because the sunsets had been great all week but I was picking up my car just in time and couldn’t even make it 5 more minutes down the street. So I popped across the street instead and hoped for the best. There was one other person there and we didn’t speak to each other, he was working on the property and just nodded as I walked over to set up my gear. The clouds were dominating the sky for the most part which is something I really like, as the clouds give the colors something to bounce off of which can make for a really dramatic scene. What happened next was not what I was expecting, as the sun peaked out from behind the trees and lit up the clouds and mid ground in a way we don’t see very often. I felt lucky since there was a group of photographers across the bridge facing the other direction. I wanted to yell at them to turn around but I guess it’s every man for himself out here. I am very into long exposures at the moment; I left the shutter open for 30 seconds on this shot, giving the river a smooth texture and showing off the movement of the clouds in the corners. From there it was a matter of running back and forth from the bridge because the entire area was glowing and I knew it wasn’t going to last long.

Thanks for reading if you’ve made it this far. I don’t think every post will be this long but I will post more as I get used to it. While I’m not necessarily new to photography and I am very comfortable with my process all of this does feel new again and I think having a place to talk about my photos this time around is cool. I will leave my camera settings at the top of each post in case anyone wants to know that stuff.
